Assessment Description | Summer 2013 Student Learning Outcome F: Synthesize information about works of art and convey it in written and oral form throughout the semester. Specifically, I looked at the Visual Literacy Forum answers and Gallery Review paper to evaluate students’ understanding of the materials presented and their ability to articulate the synthesis of the materials. The Gallery Review is about image analysis based upon the class materials. The Visual Literacy Forum occurs in the first week of the class and the Gallery Review is due the third week of the class. |

Data Summary | 84% of students scored Satisfactory or Excellent in the Visual Literacy Forum. Of the 18 students submitting a Gallery Review Paper, 11 were excellent, 5 were Satisfactory and 2 need improvement. |
Analysis Summary | Students have achieved outcome if they can clearly articulate ideas of denotation, connotation and deconstruct an image based on the teachings of this class. |
Next Steps Planned | Summer The students who completed the Visual Literacy Forum and the Gallery Review Paper Assignments did quite well. Choosing another SLO to analyze is the next move for this class. Summer session is just six weeks long rather that the approximate 17 week semester. The class needs to be reorganized to increase class retention. |
